Despite speculation linking him with a move to rivals Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton has insisted that he is happy to remain at McLaren.
The 26-year-old met for talks with Christian Horner at the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, but insists that he has no reason to leave McLaren, who have been the second best team in the 2011 Formula One season.
Speaking about the ongoing speculation, he said: “We are the only other team that has won races this year, so I don't see why you'd want to move when you have the most competitive car.”
“So as long as we have the car that can do the job, then there will be no reason to leave.”
Hamilton does reaffirm his position at McLaren with these comments, but also leaves the door open for a departure should the team suffer a dip in standards. Sports betting pundits note that he is a winner and there might be only so long he will be content with second best.
However, one thing seems certain; he would love to beat Red Bull with McLaren. That would give him the most satisfaction. The drivers’ Championship may be all but gone this year, but if he can Jenson Button can win a few more races, it puts them in a good position for next season.
The 2008 World Champion hasn’t had the best couple of races though, with sixth place in Monaco and a failure to finish in Canada. Those assessing the latest sports bets note how the next race in Valencia is massive for him to get back on track.
A win for him as a McLaren driver could be just what everybody needs right now.
